As part of their current unit of work, our Year 5 and 6 pupils enjoyed a fascinating visit to the Miners’ Rescue Centre in Wrexham. The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils to bring their classroom learning to life, exploring the important role that coal mining has played in shaping Wrexham and the wider North Wales community.

Pupils discovered more about the lives and working conditions of local miners, the dangers they faced underground, and the vital work of the Mines Rescue Service in keeping mining communities safe. Through first-hand experiences, artefacts and stories from our local area, the children were able to make meaningful connections between their learning and Wrexham’s rich industrial heritage. A huge thank you to everyone at the Miners’ Rescue Centre for providing such an interesting and memorable learning experience!

This morning, we remembered the 266 men and boys who lost their lives so tragically in the Gresford Colliery Disaster on 22nd September 1934.
